Las Galletas Travel Guide

Las Galletas was named after a 19th-century shipwreck, which lost its cargo of biscuits. The biscuits were washed up on the shores to the delight of the locals. The name has been Las Galletas from then on (the Biscuits). Only 15 minutes from the airport, Las Galletas is in an ideal position nestled on the southern coast between Golf del Sur and Los Cristianos.

Beach at Las Galletas-1

Las Galletas is a traditional fishing village, which goes right back to the early history of the island and has retained that historic feel. On the promenade near the marina, you will find the daily fish market selling fresh tuna and locally caught fish with the local fishermen standing and chatting.

The Marina is buzzing with activity, from the large yachts to the small fishing boats. This is where you will find the dolphin and whale spotting trips, boat sightseeing trips, sailing tuition, scuba diving or you can go on a jet ski, so plenty to do. You will find a large number of restaurants and bars, so you could have a walk around the large marina and on the promenade toward the center of Las Galletas. Here you will find a shingle and sand beach, great for topping up that tan. There is also a larger beach west of the marina.

The centre of Las Galletas is defiantly more cosmopolitan than its harbor area with its criss-cross of streets studded with shops, cafes, restaurants, post office and banks. Bustling with a mixture of all ages and nationalities, its great to see this small town has not lost its Spanish identity.

Las Galletas lies alongside the Holiday resort of Costa Del Silencio with the complex of TenBel sandwiched between the two resorts. It has been attracting holidaymakers from Belgian for many years. Hence the speciality you will find in this area of mussels and chips (moules y frites).
