A Guide to Playa de Las Americas
If its fun in the sun you’re looking for then Playa de Las Americas could be the perfect resort for you. Only 20 minutes from the airport by taxi or car, coaches will take a little longer as they have many tourists to drop on the way. The TF1 takes you right to the doorstep of Las Americas then you have a short drive down to the accommodation of your choice.
Playa De Las Americas has grown significantly in the past 30 years and now extends to three separate zones, Toviscas, San Eugenio and the original Playa de Las Americas. These three resort areas offer three man made beaches and three natural volcanic black sand beaches. If you are looking for a quiet beach, you are in the wrong place. At the height of the season, these beaches can become very busy but you can always stroll in and find a more secluded area. You will always find plenty of Sun beds on the beaches if you just want to enjoy the sun and relax.
At the west end of Playa de Las Americas, you will find one of the best marinas on the whole island at Puerto Colon locally known as “Geranium promenade”. This marina has been designed to be an impressive and usable marina. Puerto Colon Marina holds up to 400 boats up to a maximum of 24 meters and has a further 237 hard standing births. With the high-class yachts that are moored there it does have the effect of lifting the profile of the area. There are also many trips for whale and dolphin spotting, sailing and sub aqua tuition is also available.
The promenade runs from its neighbouring Los Cristianos all the way to Costa Adeje, and is lined with hotels, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets, from the small café bars to the À la carte 5 Star restaurants. Playa de Las Americas is a shopper’s paradise with its plethora of souvenir shops to the designer boutiques, time for some retail therapy. There are two main shopping Malls Centro Comercial Safari and CC Parque Santiago 3 and are both well worth a visit.
If the sun is not your thing then there is plenty more entertainment to be had in Las Americas. To start with there is an 18-hole golf course; two water parks, Jungle Park with its display of exotic birds, wild animals and botanic gardens. Horse riding is also available nearby which is a great way to see the rugged countryside. There are also the water-based trips to consider like glass bottom boats, wale and dolphin spotting; diving school, surfing school, sailing trips and the list goes on and on.
Playa de las Americas really comes to life at night with its drink until you drop mentality in the bars and nightclubs but don’t panic as the real party areas are based around Veronicas and the Starco Centre. So if you want a quieter evening then give this part of Playa de las Americas a wide birth and maybe drift into the neighboring quieter resorts.
So, Playa de Las America is going to be a hard resort to beat if you’re looking for a fun holiday with great beaches, entertainment, restaurants, bars and nightclubs in abundance. With a shopping experience that will make your credit cards wince, this could be the resort for you.
